Dr Martijn Bours is associate professor in the epidemiology department at Maastricht University. He is an epidemiologist and trained as a health scientist (specialising in movement sciences) and physiotherapist.

He conducts epidemiological research into the influence of lifestyle on recovery after cancer, or cancer survivorship. These aspects include side effects of cancer therapy, daily functioning, social participation, mental health, and quality of life. H

e has a special interest in applying causal inference methods to improve observational studies and data analyses. His research focuses primarily on colorectal cancer. More recently, he has also been researching skin cancer (melanoma).
